The one and only Soul Clap features nothing but rare 45’s all night

Dollhouse Productions is pleased to announce that Jonathon Toubin’s Soul Clap and Dance Off will take place in the 300-capacity venue on Saturday May 10th, 2014. The dance contest, which consists of a panel of local celebrity judges, a $100 cash prize to the winner, and a DJ selector, has been a touring event for the past several years gaining notoriety across the nation. Based out of NYC, Soul Clap and Dance-Off has become North America’s most popular soul party and still growing. The Soul Clap is a night of fun, dancing, sweating, and just getting down to some of the most fun and mostly unheard soul music from the past.

Savannah’s  punk outfit SAUNA HEAT will kick the night off to get everyones blood flown’.

The dance contest will begin at midnight and will last about 30 minutes followed by MORE soul music and dancing from Mr. Toubin until 2am.

Space for the contest is limited to the first 50 attendees who get their numbers when Toubin announces its time for the Dance Off just before midnight.

Local judges include Beth Vantosh (Vantosh Realty), Jane Fishel (The Andaz), and Wes Daniel (HangFire Bar), Roberto Leoci (Leoci’s Trattoria/Pacci Italian Kitchen & Bar) , Kayne Lanahan (Savannah Stopover Music Festival)

About New York Night Train’s Soul Clap and Dance Off:

Jonathan Toubin conceived the Soul Clap and Dance-Off in March 2007 as a monthly outlet to play his growing collection of soul 45s to a small north Brooklyn underground art/rock social community in the spirit of the mid-1990s indie/punk scene parties. He added a brief dance-contest to the mix to make the event more interesting. As this humble makeshift neighborhood underdog evolved into an institution, Mr. T employed the party’s popularity as a weapon against tired hit nights, 80s nights, and other mediocre contemporary dance culture – offering an alternative in the possibility of dancing to exciting music most of us have never heard before with the unparalled sound of the original recordings. The epic size, frequency, and geographical breadth of the Soul Clap the last few years has been a seed for a new wave of soul dance culture among indie rockers, punks, and hipsters first in Brooklyn, next in Manhattan, and, within two years, around the world. The contests have been made more interesting by including noteable guest DJ’s and Judges, Live Music, and performances to the mix. Andrew WK, Black Lips, Dum Dum Girls, King Khan and the BBQ and King Khan and the Shrines, Quintron  and Miss Pussycat, Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedy’s) have all participated.

The most-liked man in the soul music scene” (Rolling Stone)

“New York’s best DJ” (VICE)

Particularly chic… one of the most popular spinners in Williamsburg and the founder of the New York Night Train dance parties. His fare is already cleaner and more appreciative of American pop music history than much of the rest.” (NY Times)
