Whaleboat EP Release Show | 3/29/14
Whaleboat, a three-piece from Savannah Georgia, plan to play their first gig in a year at Dollhouse on March 29th, accompanied with their EP release ‘Convoys’. Doors are at 9 pm and openers include Omnigone, CO., and Tonto. Whaleboat plan to hit the stage around midnight.
Describing their sound as something between indie-rock and shoegaze, with strong suggestions of the young days of The Police, Whaleboat have formed their own unique sound that gained a steady following leading up to their powerful performance at last years Savannah Stopover. Opening up for Ponderosa and The Whigs, these Savannah boys blew the audience away….and then they took a break, until now. Whaleboat’s lead singer and guitarist Brent Collins, however, claims this not necessarily a grand reunion: “We wouldn’t necessarily call it a return we never went anywhere, just needed a much needed breather for a little bit. Life happens and I needed to take care of some things personally inside myself. It had nothing to do with the music or the band at all.”
The other two members, Donald Moats (bass) and Jeremiah Stuard (drums) have been working on side projects in the meantime (Sins of Godless Men and COEDS), but are looking forward to this show and the future of Whaleboat.
‘Convoys’ consists of 4 tracks including last years single release ‘Cold Love Wars’ which was all recorded, mixed, mastered and produced at Dollhouse Studios. The EP will be available for purchase at the March 29th release show and then will be released online for download the following Tuesday on bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Beats, etc. Whaleboat have plans to promote the EP with more local shows as well as gigs outside of Savannah. They promise to their fans that the wait will have been worthwhile!
